Bye Bye Bloat Bundle

HTMA stands for Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis and it is one of my favorite functional tests to run. The reason why the HTMA test is so useful is that it gives us a detailed breakdown of your mineral levels, heavy metal excretion, metabolic type, and mineral ratios.

Minerals are the MVP when it comes to gut and metabolic health. Every single cell in your body requires minerals to function. Which means, if your minerals are depleted, you’re going to feel it.

This can look like: fatigue, constipation, bloating, anxiety, depression, brain fog, low thyroid function, acne, hair loss, PMS, irritability. Minerals affect everything and to put it simply, they are a BIG deal.

I created the Bye Bye Bloat Bundle as a more accessible way to identify your mineral imbalances and targeted tools to restore your gut and metabolic health. As much as I love working 1:1 with clients, I realize that not everyone has the time, energy, and money to do so.

The Bye Bye Bloat Bundle is for you if you are a health and wellness DIY-er and looking for lab testing with specific recommendations to address your mineral imbalances. I take a food-first approach and will often recommend specific foods, lifestyle, and short term supplements to help you reach your goals.

FAQs

  • HTMA stands for Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis. It is a test that measures the mineral content of hair. It is easy, painless, and can be completed at home. The HTMA sample requires roughly 1 teaspoon of hair and must be cut as close to the scalp as possible. You will send 1.5 inches of your hair. Cutting it from multiple locations on the scalp works best so that you don’t notice any missing hair.

  • The HTMA test shows your body’s mineral status for the last 90 days which is a massive draw since most tests only look at one moment in time. The HTMA test looks at minerals INSIDE the cell. In comparison, blood tests look at nutrients outside the cell. The HTMA test also assesses current excretion of heavy metals.

  • HTMA is helpful for anyone on their healing journey since minerals fuel all reactions in the body. It  is especially helpful for those struggling with fatigue, constipation, bloating, irregular periods, mood changes, and those wanting to see their stress levels. Although there are more root causes to bloating, the HTMA test can be a helpful piece since minerals are needed for stomach acid and proper liver function.

  • Yes, it is very helpful to see your mineral levels since many medications deplete specific minerals.

  • Yes, but please wait at least 6 weeks before sending in your sample.

  • Please sample from clean dry hair. Hair should be free of products and has not been styled with any heating tools. I find that it’s typically easiest to wash hair in the morning or evening and cut a sample after hair has fully dried. Make sure you do not sweat beforehand, as this will impact sodium levels on your hair sample.

  • Each testing kit comes with a scale to ensure you send enough hair.

  • Since HTMA looks at your average mineral levels over the past 90 days, I recommend retesting every 4-6 months, or annually if looking for maintenance check-ins. Typically, fast metabolizers will want to retest closer to 4-6 months, while slow metabolizers will want to retest closer to 6-8 months. This ensures that your results will show the changes you’ve made. HTMA is also a great test to continue annually.
